National Museum of African Art
Part of the Smithsonian's network of museums, the National Museum of African Art holds pieces from Africa's past and present, including sculpture, textiles, tools, musical instruments, ceramics, and painting. The collection explores the intersection of African art within the entirety of art today, and with the cultures and religious beliefs found within Africa. Tours on various themes are available for students (see hours for thematic tours).
National Museum of the American Indian
The National Museum of the American Indian has three permanent exhibits at its Washington, DC site: "Our Universes: Traditional Knowledge Shapes Our World," which explores Native cosmology; "Our Peoples: Giving Voice to Our Histories," which examines the history of Native people since 1491; and "Our Lives: Contemporary Life and Identities," looking at the 21st century status of Native peoples. The museum, part of the Smithsonian, also has temporary exhibits. Groups can arrange for a reserved spot in the timed-entry line, and can also arrange for guided tours.

US Holocaust Memorial Museum
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum opened in 1993 and today serves as a memorial, a site for research, and as an advocate for understanding the responsibilites of citizenship. The museum has two permanent exhibits: "The Holocaust," recommened for ages 11 and up, and "Remember the Children: Daniel's Story," designed to help children understand the Holocaust. There are also special exhibitions and exhibits in the Wexler Learning Center. Group of 21 or more can visit "The Holocaust" by scheduled visit, while smaller groups can visit through general public hours (passes are required).
